During
the first chiropractic visit, a complete history and examination of your horse is performed so that I may begin determining your horse's course of care.
Whenever possible, examination also includes gait analysis, hoof balance check and saddle fit. During the exam, I look
for abnormal motion of the spine; swelling; heat; muscle tightness or
spasm; fixated joint complexes; range of motion, performance or gait
limitations; uneven hip or pelvis; head tilt; uneven ears, or any other
chiropractic-related problems. Each visit, I do a complete head-to-toe check.
After the chiropractic physical
examination, I perform chiropractic adjustments, which are specific
high-velocity, low force thrusts with a specific line of correction
aimed to correct joint misalignments and fixations. This will aid in
restoring proper body, muscle and nerve function. It can be done in
any region of the spine or extremities. To perform some adjustments to
the withers, middle back and lower back and pelvis, I stand on one or
two vinyl "bales" (shaped and sized like bales of hay). This allows me
to get a mechanical advantage over the horse. I adjust the neck and
extremities while standing on the ground.
After the adjustment I will repeat motion palpation of the region, looking for
improvement in the affected areas. This is the fun and rewarding part;
there is usually a noticeable improvement. I then lift and stretch each of the horse's legs and perform acupressure therapy to tight muscles of the poll, neck and lower back. If you like, I will show you how to do this for your own horse to improve performance and comfort. Finally, I provide you
with a written report of findings, with illustrations, to help you
track the progress of your horse's chiropractic health.
